best web hosting

The Internet has become the fastest and most reliable way of communication world over. Besides communication, there are a number of other facilities that online entrepreneurs utilize to facilitate their businesses. In order to put up a website for your business, you need to get a reliable web hosting company. There are various types of web hosting packages available from which you can choose from depending on your business needs. A well functioning and active website is very crucial for the success of your online business and this is why you need to get the best web hosting or ecommerce hosting services available in the market.

Some of the different types of web hosting services include the FTPs, ASPs, Re-sellers among others. Most entrepreneurs do not know the pros and cons of the servers and the web hosting hubs. This is why it is advisable that you check out objective web hosting reviews available online. As a consumer, you need to know the market and web hosting industry service rates as well as what to expect from your hosting company.

If your goal is to sell online products via your website then you need to ensure that you provide your clients with the best web experience. Once you are decided on the goals of your business, you need to start looking for a domain name and web hosting services that will translate your goals into reality. In case you are working on a tight budget then you can consider going for free webhosting services from where you will have your website hosted for free. The only major flipsides with this option though is that you will not be able to choose your domain name besides providing you with a limited space and storage capacity. The other common option available is the shared web hosting services (see example – hostgator review) which comes with a significant amount of server space coupled with the flexibility to add your content and pictures to your website making it more professional. If your website has gained more popularity attracting more traffic then you will need to get dedicated web hosting services. With a dedicated service, you will get much bigger storage space.

So what should you expect from a well managed web hosting service?

i. Uptime and downtime

A well managed web hosting service will ensure that your website is available to your customers 24/7 in order for them to find you anytime they wish to make a purchase make inquiries.

ii. Loading speed

A good web hosting service will ensure that your web pages load faster to eliminate incidents of your customers getting frustrated and moving away before making a purchase.

iii. Technical support

Your web hosting company should be able to offer round the clock technical support

iv. Shopping cart/ Payment processing

Your website’s hosting company should provide SSL certification to assure your clients of the security of their information. It should also be easy to include a shopping cart t your site.

v. Upgrade path

A good hosting company should leave room for future expansion and modification of your website to respond with the growth of your business.

Content management system (CMS) is a very important tool for optimizing the full potential of your web hosting. This is because it enables you to fully control your data and content, without necessarily possessing any technical knowledge. Some of the web hosting tools that can help you simplify your web publishing include WordPress, Joomla, Drupal and more.

Choosing the best web hosting service for your ecommerce website is a very important decision. Consider checking out the consumer reviews in order to get a reputable hosting company that will be able to support you while being in business for a very long time. Spend time doing your research from the onset in order to settle for the best available web hosting company.

Hi Aloyce

Thanks for such an informative post. I have just set up an ecommerce store but it is hosted by the company that has the store. Initially I wanted to do my own on my site but costs were prohibitive. So I opted for an Etsy store and that seems to be working for me. They take payments for me so I don’t have that hassle. Just get to pack and send out my beautiful sourced products to my customers. They are rapt with them and I’m pleased to have happy customers 🙂

HI Patricia. In the beginning, there are always ways to achieve certain objectives without necessarily having to opt for investments that are not called for. Your decision in my opinion was wise and they key is if it is working for you, do not change it. Maybe in the future when your business grows, you find the need for more control and flexibility. When that time comes (which I am convinced it will), just make sure you do a thorough research first before choosing your web hosting provider.

I currently run 3 servers for my 100s of sites (consolidating that for 2011) and yes, uptime is ‘way ‘way ‘way important. Smart tech support too – that’s key.

Patricia, glad you found Etsy is working well for you! It’s such a kick to be able to sell online, eh? 🙂

Hi Barbara. Wow, 100s of websites. I’m sure that the “keys” you are talking about are indeed extremely important as I can not even imagine if your servers fail to deliver. That would be a “small” disaster and a definite “headache” :). Anyway, I share your opinion.. uptime and tech support do play an important role on this one. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Aloyce, I am now managing a blog and thinking of heading towards an eCommerce Site for me. Will you suggest me a directory for my site?

Great post Aloyce,
But I think you missed one key point. Bandwidth, I have 2 servers, one being co-owned and I must say that I usually use all of my bandwidth limit in 2 weeks or so after which my speed is lowered until I pay for extra bandwidth.
One other problem I face is server load, my mysql is killing my server and I usually have to adjust the caches, key buffers, table caches etc. I must put in place some load balancing but I need to buy an extra server for that :(.
For an e-commerce website is vital to have a fast loading page because you risk to lose customers otherwise!

Finding a good web host for your high traffic web site might be hard. I remember that I have searched for around 2 weeks 1 year ago, and I used two companies before settling with the one I am using right now. It can be frustrating.

E commerce has brought the world under one roof , and SSL( socket secure layer ) plays vital role like 128 bit or 64 bit encryption which helps to secure data while traveling in NETWORK path
