The 2016 Guide To Creating SEO Friendly URLs (infographic)

URL sturcture has been in the past quite confusing when it comes to how should one be using or creating them properly. While the obvious is to elimintae those “~?aff910828/” etc., that comes after the TLD, some say that the URL structure and SEO, may work together.

With that in mind, and although there can be a lot of confusion and debate, Brian Dean, Founder of Backlinko and CEO of Ignite Visibility, compiled tips drawn from commonly shared wisdom and accepted advice.

From URL length to keyword usage to canonical issues to folders to status codes, it’s all listed in this infographic.

Google Ignores TLDs For Ranking Purposes

I first saw this infographic on SearchEngineLand.com (SEL), and when you reach the TLD part of this infographic you may want to read the article that SEL themselves wrote about a controversial comment made by Google’s John Mueller saying in a Google Hangout that keyword-rich TLDs, such as the new top-level domains that have keywords in them — like .LIVE, .NEWS, .ATTORNEY and so on — do not count for ranking purposes. Mueller said Google completely ignores that for ranking purposes. Now that sucks!

What do you think? Are URLs important for both rankings and UX?
