Curated Infographics, Kony 2012, Klout For Pinterest, Social Web, Speedlink 10:2012

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great week. Well, this week, one of the “hottest” topics definitely goes to the viral video released by “Invisible Children”, Kony 2012, which had 58 million views on YT in just 4 days (now 63 million+). Kony 2012 is a half-hour video campaign about Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony, the leader of the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), and alleged atrocities his army has committed since the 1980s. Such video has raised some questions whether or not the message caused positive or negative impact. Regardless, “Invisible Children” has been able to finally send the message across, and this is just for you to have an idea how powerful the internet today really is (you do know that already, right?). Anyway, don’t know about you, but I had no idea (sad but true), who this guy was before. Hope they catch him, if they have not already.

On a side note, I am sure that you have heard about content curation before. You may also have noticed the impact of “infographics” lately. Just like anything else, there are now infographics all over the place and some are good and some are well, not so good. Infographics are visual images of information that can be extremely valuable and nearly all of them are encouraged by the owner to “share” freely on the web (don’t forget the attribution). If you are struggling with content creation, using relevant and related infographics to create some post can be a good idea (hint).

Anyway, since there are way too many of them right now, I started a new site that “curates” infographics, which are targeted to SEO, Social Networking, Blogging and related topics. Not sure where it is going yet, but the experiment relates to getting “ranked” well only by the proper use of keywords, site structure and minor inbound marketing techniques. I will let you know about the outcome within a month. Just another “niche” I am getting on, and at the same time giving you an idea you can maybe work on 🙂

As usual, in no particular order.

  • Hi DiTesco,

Fascinating to see how quickly the Kone video took off.

In just a few days it was everywhere: Facebook, Twitter…I couldn’t turn around without seeing his face and the story line on multiple profiles, at once. Amazing, the power of viral marketing. Let’s hope they catch the SOB.

As for your shared posts, quite awesome 😉 Loved the copyblogger piece. Some become a social media snob without realizing it, after years of working networks people feel they are above others. Me, I become more humble with time, because I am grateful for my following and remember the days of 5 friends and 10 followers.

    Thanks for sharing DiTesco!

  • Interesting infographic experiment you got going on as it also sounds like it could be extended to the Pinterest platform.

    btw,
I think Google’s algorithms are starting to get to Matt’s head literally bcz his hair is starting to turn grey 😆

  • Content curation is now days so frequent. So this is really better idea to use infograph for some time. I was looking for this information few days before. Thanks a lot for sharing.

  • Thanks for the collection Fran. As always very useful and a great time saver for me 🙂

  • I have heard about Kony before but I never knew more about it…But thanks for the information and video you have here for us…

  • I’ve used pinterest to optimize my site and the result was amazing my site was jumped from #234 to #9 in few weeks time.

The trick is we must got our website pinned and repinned by many people this is the hardest part. Most of pinterest users won’t doing repin when they aren’t like what we pinned.

I do simple thing to outsource it on fiverr and got my site pinned by more than 70 people, I don’t know how can he did it just search by typing pinterest on fiverr and you will find it.

As I know currently pinterest is best for SEO for these reason:
    1. Once our website pinned it has 3 backlinks counts
    2. Google interest in social media signal so it will not tagged as links farm
    3. Currently pinterest links are dofollow even the image
    4. Also support anchor text, it’s perfect for placing our keywords

    • Hmmm, that’s an interesting tip and I am really impressed about some of those guys over at Fiverr with all their creativity. So whois “the man” over at Fiverr that does a good job on this? May want to use him eventually, lol
